Shane Allen Wessel - Captured

January 10, 2008

MARSHAL IA NEWS -- A violent fugitive task force led by U.S. Marshals arrested Shane Allen Wessel late last night in Marshalltown, Iowa. Wessel, one of Metro's Most Wanted, was being sought on arrest warrants issued in Polk and Warren counties for various charges including Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, Carrying Concealed Weapons, Eluding, and Theft.

Numerous cooperating local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies including: the U.S. Marshals; the Polk County Sheriff's Office; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms; the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force; the Warren County Sheriff's Office, and the Metro S.T.A.R. team had been looking for Wessel since October. This cooperative effort, combined with various tips from the community, led to recent information that Wessel may be hiding out in Marshalltown.

U.S. Marshals and the Marshalltown Police Department arrested Wessel without incident late last night in the 300 block of North 3rd Avenue in Marshalltown. A 9mm handgun was recovered at the residence. Also arrested was Angela Kay Jones (19) who was charged with Accessory After the Fact and Probation Violations. Both Wessel and Jones are being held in the Polk County Jail awaiting further proceedings.

Authorities are still seeking the public's help in locating Stephen Hershel Neff (36) wanted in Warren County on Theft charges. It is believed that Neff and Wessel had been on the run together since at least November 2007. Anyone with information on Neff's whereabouts is encouraged to call the Southern Iowa Fugitive Task Force at 515-323-2897. Callers can remain anonymous.

The Southern Iowa Fugitive Task Force is led by the U.S. Marshals and comprised of law enforcement officers from the Polk County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest violent fugitives wanted in the Southern District of Iowa on outstanding federal, state, and local arrest warrants. Last year, U.S. Marshals task forces arrested more than 27,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
